I haven't been a faithful blogger again.
I'm probably the only one who's noticed.
I have to admit that I have serious trouble getting psyched up for any kind of exercises these days. Walking is probably the only form of physical exercise I do frequently and automatically. I can't wake myself up as early as how I'd get up to train for a race in the past. I don't do reps because I hate counting or keeping count. I haven't given up on a full recovery. I am just taking things slow. Maybe a little too slow, I have to admit. Again.
But, good news is, I did something this evening, at least.
I did a reservoir walk.
This time, it felt shorter and quicker now, I probably enjoyed it much more than before because this evening I was walking with the man I am in love with. An easy 4.3km walk that took 45 minutes.
The winds last week was crazy. It was 10pm after class and I was stumbling my way across a field to the gate. I wouldn't have made it to the gate if they were headwinds. That kind of wind chilled me to the bones and it felt like it was gonna rain any time soon but it never did. It was just storming wind.
Just a few weeks ago, I developed an interest in making chilli paste. It began over a steamboat meal with the gals a few weeks ago. I decided to assign myself as the "paste maker". I had a recipe I was eager to share. Unfortunately, I sliced too many chillies and the paste became absolutely inedible. It was just too spicy for anyone's taste buds. My fingers were in inferno too and at that moment, I swore off chilli for the rest of my life. “I will never subject myself to that again”...
I tried washing and scrubbing my hands with detergents and soaps but nothing worked. I grabbed cold glasses and placed my hands on top of some marble surfaces, but to no avail. A few hours later, I was still in agony. I took the last resort of using salts to scrub. Someone told me that would work. I didn't want to believe it but at that point, you'd really want to try anything. Anything that might bring you a little hope of soothing the pain. It didn't seem to work, but I wasn't sure, because I was too tired to care by then. I went to bed hoping to sleep it off. And it worked.
When the pain was over, I decided I wasn't a quitter. I have to perfect the paste. Now I am still working on it.
We have a long weekend coming up. A day and a half to go. Woohoo.

2009. I need to kill the writer's block and get started on typing again.
I can't believe I've been away for so long.
I am finally walking fine now, though not as how I had been normally, but well enough not to limp awkwardly. You can't really be 100% back to normal recovering from such severe injuries I guess.
A cleaner at the other office had a freak accident that involved her feet getting rolled over by the gate of the garage while someone was pushing it back. A couple of fractured toes kept her from walking and working for a few months. When she returned, I asked her how was she getting on. She said, "I'm good, i can walk now but you know, not like before anymore...you should know better."
I am not exactly diligent in my physio exercises as well. There were always other priorities or the next day. I've been pushing the exercises away day after day, it's become a part of me I have no more control of, anymore. It makes me feel like the only natural thing to do is not to do anything about it. It's a shame, considering I used to train so hard even when there wasn't any race. I've figured out why. And this is possibly the same reason why I hate the gym. The leg raise reps or whatever exercises that come in reps and sets are tediously unvarying and I seriously hate counting. As compared to the lonely kilometers I had to clock on my long distance runs, doing physio exercises are worse. I can't let my thoughts race because I have to keep track of the number of reps, and I have no passing views to keep me going. Music is my only motivation but it just doesn't last. I wish I had a personal physiotherapist who can do the counting for me and make me work my ass off for the exercises. I still have dreams about me running. It's something my mind doesn't quit doing and possibly the only slightest thing that still exists in me to keep me inspired to run for real again. I need to feel the lactic acid in my legs again. It's been a long time since they felt like lead to me. It's time to buck up. After months of skiving and on the 1st day of year 2009, I'm actually aware that i need to buck up. Better late than never.
Having been back to work for almost a year, I still haven't gotten used to waking up early and happy. Sure, I wake up just in time to get dressed and not be late for work, but that don't go smoothly without rush and much grumbling to self that I should have slept earlier the night before. I'm always dragging myself out of bed every morning no matter how early I go to sleep the night before. And on weekend mornings, I end up sleeping the sleep of the dead. Maybe I really am plain lazy. It's not going to be easy now especially when I am going to attend classes twice a week after work. And that will mean sleeping late on those two nights and waking up feeling more tired than before. Meanwhile, I am quite keen on getting a new alarm clock. A second alarm clock.
Lance Armstrong's return to pro cycling is surely something to look forward to in 2009. That makes it 17 days more to his debut at Tour Down Under. I'd really love to find out how 2009 Giro d'Italia is going to turn out for him too.

Craig Alexander and Chrissie Wellington
Craig Alexander smoked the Kona Ironman World Championship last Saturday. I've always thought that he was going to be due a spot on the list of Champions of Kona. And I don't mean 2nd or 3rd place. The 'Live' Coverage was in the wee hours local time but it was worth battling sleep to watch it because the streaming was heaps better this year.
Michelie Jones bailed out this year because of a torn calf muscle that left her on the bench as a commentator with a few others...like Paula Newby Fraser.
Chrissie Wellington is seemingly invincible on the bike. She had a flat that took 10 minutes to fix but still managed to come in 1st at T2. And this year again, she crossed the Finishing line...with no more than two sponsors on her tri top to my surprise. She's proven she's not just a one-hit wonder.
She's incredibly fast.
